A 19-year-old Edgewood man has been arrested on multiple traffic violations after allegedly causing two wrong way crashes on Interstate 57 south of Salem.

State Police say Jordan Lange was ticketed for driving under the influence, unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, driving the wrong way, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Preliminary information indicates Lange was traveling northbound on I-57 when he crossed the median near mile post 107 and struck a southbound car driven by a 19-year-old female from Mt. Vernon.

Police say Lange continued northbound in the southbound lanes and initiated a second crash at mile marker 109.  In the second crash, a car driven by a 20-year-old man from Kinmundy was driving southbound in the left lane as a semi was driving in the right lane.  The Kinmundy man began moving to the right lane to avoid being hit by Lange and in the process sideswiped the semi driven by a 55-year-old female from Champaign.  The Kinmundy man then lost control with his vehicle coming to a stop in the right ditch.

Lange did not make contact with either vehicle and continued driving northbound in the southbound lanes before it ran off the roadway and became disabled near mile post 113.

The only injury was reported to Lange.  He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred at 6:41 Tuesday morning.
