At the regular meeting on Tuesday, the Central City Village Board approved the purchase of two grasshopper mowers and a sickle using capital improvements funds for a total cost of $28,315 to replace two deteriorating ten-year-old mowers. This will leave the village with roughly $6,000 left in the capital improvements fund. The board agreed that this purchase would be more cost-effective in the long-term than maintaining the aging mowers.
Denise McClung from the Illinois Treasurer’s Office spoke to the board about Central City’s investment options with the state. She presented The Illinois Funds as a flexible, low-risk investment that the village could participate in as a local government. The Illinois Funds currently has a 4.418% interest rate. McClung also provided information on participating in the state ePay program. Board members will review materials and discuss investing again at the next meeting.
The board pushed back approving next year’s budget due to issues that still need to be resolved. The budget will come up again at the next meeting.
Reviewing the topic of storm shelters, Mayor Neely Reed said that the village does not have a building that it can offer as a safe place to go during a severe storm. He advises residents to plan ahead for how to get themselves to safety in the event of a storm.
The board approved this year’s village-wide cleanup for June 9 to June 13 and the village-wide rummage sale for June 6 and June 7.
Public works director Shane Swartzlander reminds residents that trash pickup has returned to normal operation, with pickup moving back to alleyways for homes that have alleyway pickup.
