By Austin Williams Apr 18, 2025 | 2:13 PM

The City of Salem Public Works Department has announced that the City Wide Clean Up will be held next week. The City’s residential trash hauler, Sunrise Sanitation, will collect items on your regularly scheduled trash day only.

There is a limit of one pickup truck load per household. Acceptable items include couches, bedding and other furniture. A total limit of 4 (four) large items will be picked up at a location. Large items include couches (each section of a sectional is a separate item), mattresses or box springs, tables, chairs, etc.

Items that CANNOT be picked up include:

–  Insulation

–  Paint or Chemical cans

–  Any Asbestos products

–  Electronics (TV, VCR, stereo or computer equipment, etc.)

–  Construction or remodel debris of any sort (insulation, shingles, toilets, sinks, lumber, carpet, etc.)

–  Car parts (tires, batteries, auto body parts, etc.)

–  Bricks, concrete, gravel

–  Complete fences (posts and disassembled panels are acceptable)

–  Swimming pool liners

The above guidelines will be strictly followed with no exceptions.

Items of questionable or unknown content will be left at the discretion of the hauler, Sunrise Sanitation. If you have items that you are uncertain about, you can contact Sunrise directly at 618-740-1701 and they can advise. Also, if you have an excessive amount, you can contact them to make arrangements for an extra pick up and a fee determined by the hauler.

Absolutely no items can be taken which were not from a source within the City Limits.

Due to the excessive workload during this clean up, residents are asked not to park in front of pickup areas. Items that are not easily accessible will be left. Any item not picked up due to non-compliance with the above rules will become the responsibility of the property owner/tenant. Alternative sources of pickup can be found via internet search for trash haulers near Salem, Illinois.
