Both the driver and a person walking in front of H and R Block on South College at Mitchell Street were injured when a car struck the building during the noon hour on Tuesday.

Salem Police say 78-year-old Alice Mabrey of Boone Street was pulling into the parking lot on the Mitchell side of the building when she accidentally accelerated, hit a woman walking near the building, and crashed into a portion of the metal wall between a window and door.    The impact caused the bottom part of the wall to buckle and caused damage to the bathroom inside that portion of the building.

The pedestrian who was struck, 67-year-old Debra Nix of South College in Salem, reportedly had crawled out from underneath Mabrey’s car before police arrived.

Both Mabry and Nix were transported by United Medical Response to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.

Police say that since the crash occurred on private property, no citations were issued.
