Carolyn J. Sands, age 86 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at her home.
Carolyn was born on January 5, 1939, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of James and Ruth (Erwin) Squibb. She married John D. Sands on January 20, 1979, in Salem, Illinois, and together they shared 46 years united in marriage.
Survivors include her husband, John of Salem; a daughter, Cynthia Bisel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Hope Carroll of Columbia, Tennessee; a step son, Robert Sands of Salem; a step daughter, Rebecca Kay Sands of Salem; a sister-in-law, Susan Squibb of West Frankfort, Illinois; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth; a son, Rick Carroll; a step-daughter, Katherine L. Beasley; a sister, Mary Lois Jones; and two brothers, Steve Squibb and Jim Squibb.
Carolyn was a graduate of Salem Community High School. She worked at the Salem National Bank and later at the Holiday Inn.
She was a member of Freedom Church in Salem. She enjoyed playing the piano and writing music. Carolyn had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
A memorial service for Carolyn J. Sands will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Freedom Church, 1439 W. Whittaker Street in Salem with Don Wallace officiating.
