The Centralia City Council will be asked to pass a resolution Monday night confirming their support for the city to seek a $3,153,600 grant from Community Project Funding. The money would pay 80-percent of the cost to replace the 12-inch water line that provides water to Kaskaskia College and the Centralia Correctional Center that has experienced numerous breaks. The resolution commits the city to provide the remaining 20-percent of funding, or $788,400. The line would travel Jolliff Bridge Road and the Barton Bottoms.
The council will be asked to accept a no bid proposal from Ironhorse, Inc. for maintenance of the railroad spur in the Centralia Industrial Park for $79,490.
The council will once again be asked to allow the Farmers Market to utilize the city-owned parking lot at Locust and Second on Saturday mornings. It also names Terry Herrell as Market Master.
The SAFE organization, Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies Crisis Center, is seeking permission to decorate light posts to recognize April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is part of a national initiative to ‘Paint the Town Teal’.
The council will discuss updating the Centralia Municipal Code, including the adoption of a number of national fire, building, maintenance, and mechanical codes.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
