Ten families will receive housing for the next seven days through a grant program being conducted by the social service agency BCMW to help victims of the flood this weekend. BCMW has worked out agreement with the Days Inn and Continental Motel in Salem and Best Western in Centralia to provide the rooms. The program will be reopened in another seven days and those still needing a place to stay will be able to reapply for another week. Of those receiving assistance, seven are from Salem and are from the Starlight Mobile Home Park and some homes on North Broadway near Boone. The other three receiving assistance are from Centralia and Central City. BCMW is not doing any work at the present time on home repairs as a result of the flooding, but that is a possibility in the future.
The number reporting damage continues to increase. There have now been 169 damage surveys returned. Three homes were totally destroyed, 26 had major damage, 119 had minor damage and 14 were affected. Those in the area with damage who haven’t reported can do so on links and QR codes available on the City of Salem and Centralia Websites and the Salem Emergency Management Agency Facebook Page. The information will be used to help obtain state and federal disaster declarations that could make money available for recovery efforts.
