The Salem Wildcats drop their Cahokia Conference opener on the road at Breese Central 3-2 in 9 innings. With the game tied at 1 in the top of the 9th, Salem would get a 2 out walk to Cooper Lobek. Cody Beard would then put a ground ball in play and the 3rd baseman made an error allowing Lobek to score the go ahead run.
Then Breese got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning and after a steal and then reaching 3rd on a throwing error, the Cougars would tie it on another Salem error. Then after another stolen base, Haar would single to center to give Breese the hard fought win.
The Wildcats got singles from Ryan Detering, Noah Nix and Aden Bass. Rhett Detering got the start going 7 innings allowing 2 hits and no earned runs. In fact, none of the Breese runs were earned. Nix worked the final 1.2 innings. Salem will host Breese on Thursday, but are back in action Wednesday afternoon at home against Belleville East who beat rival Belleville West yesterday 5-4.
Also yesterday in Cahokia play, Freeburg beat Columbia 11-5 and Roxana shutout Wood River 15-0.
The Centralia Orphans are at home against Triad coming off their 2-0 win over Waltonville to run the Orphans record to 5-4. Rhett Lambert his a 2-run walk-off homer for Centralia. Spartans pitcher Brandon Mensor had 18 strikeouts in the loss as the Spartans fall to 3-3.
The Salem JV lost to Breese 12-7 at home. Luke Boldt was the starter going three innings allowing allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. Brendan Smith led Salem with 2 RBI going 2-4. Boldt, Evan Barnes and Smith had 2 hits each.
Christ Our Rock got a 5-inning complete game from freshman Colton Cartright as they beat Woodlawn 13-3. He allowed just 4 hits and 3 runs striking out 3. Brayden Albert, Noah Kenley, Jayden Bazile and Cartright each had 2 hits with Nollman and Cartight driving in 2 runs each.
Odin/Patoka/Sandoval got 4 hits from Austin Hoffman they beat Grayville 15-3. Haydon Purcell, Drew Haines and Tyler Huffman drove in 2 runs each. Ben Spencer was the winning pitcher going all 5 innings allowing 5 hits and striking out 9.
