The Salem City Council met in closed session Monday night to discuss the city council opening left by the resignation of Theresa Crouch.
After the meeting, Mayor Nic Farley said he would be presenting Royce Bringwald as the replacement at the next meeting. Bringwald lost the recent city council election to Frank Addison and Gerald Molenhour.
Before the election, Farley says the three sent him a letter asking for whoever did not win one of the three seats to be appointed to the opening.
“I thought it would be prudent to do that,” Farley said. “We had seven applicants apply for the open vacant seat. With changes in personnel, I thought it was nice to have Royce also back. He’s done a great job as a council member for a number of years. I thought it was valuable to have that experience as we transition. It just makes sense.”
However, Farley did not want to act Monday night because he wanted Councilman Craig Morton to have a voice in the decision. He was absent from Monday’s meeting.
