Ian King sworn in as Police Sergeant by Mayor Nic Farley.

The Salem City Council Monday night swore in Ian King as Police Department Sergeant.  King began his law enforcement career as a telecommunicator at the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in 2013.  He became a Salem Police Officer in 2019.

The council agreed to make anyone wanting to construct a large solar farm in the mile and a half non-urban zone around the city to have to obtain a special use permit.   That will require a public hearing before the Planning Commission where neighbors can express their opinions.   Until now, no approval was needed for a solar project.

A special use permit was approved for Crea Rose to operate a medical clinic at 207 East Main Downtown.

A rezoning request from Wheat Collier was approved for 1701 and 1703 East Main Street.  The former home of Merle McKinney Auto Sales will have its current business zoning change to RS-2 residential.  Both buildings on the property are now used for residential housing.

A public hearing was set on the new Tax Increment Financing District Four for five pm on Monday, June 9th.   Final approval of the ordinance is set to become before the city council on its Monday, July 7th meeting.
