The Salem City Council has approved a bid from Chuck McLean to tear down the remaining nine substandard homes on the city’s demolition list. The total cost of the demolition is $134,300.
The homes to be demolished are at 621 North Broadway, 417 Sanger, 305 West Olive, 110 South Marion, 114 South Castle, 205 East Oglesby, 303 North Shelby, 518 South Franklin and 616 South Maple.
The demolitions will spend down the state grant that allowed for 20 substandard homes to be torn down. City Manager Annette Sola said she had hoped to utilize city crews for more of the work, but there were just too many other projects to complete.
Sola says the city may want to start another list of homes in need of demolition and apply for another state grant in the future.
