The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports all major highways are once again passable Saturday morning.   However, low-lying rural roads remain flooded and the Green Street Road is closed at the Raccoon Creek Bridge east of Central City as a result of up to four gates being wide open on Raccoon Lake to get rid of rapidly rising water.   That’s the highest number of gates open in recent memory.

The Salem Reservoir may have also reached a record high as water was flowing 30 inches over the top of the spillway, breaking the measurement device.   The water level is back down to 14 inches above the spillway as of seven Saturday morning.

Salem and Centralia officials report that water has receded from most city streets. However, many low-lying roads in rural areas that normally flood were still underwater Saturday morning, including roads across Crooked Creek Bottoms in Salem Township and in the Skillet Fork Bottoms east of Iuka.

The Salem Water Plant recorded 5.91 inches of rain and the Centralia Water Plant 4.9 inches of rain from the storm activity.
