The Salem Wildcats dropped their home game to the Effingham Hearts 8-6 in a rematch of last year’s regional championship game won by the Wildcats. Effingham took a 6-0 lead in the top of the 3rd, the Cats answered back with 4 in the bottom of the inning and had chances, but couldn’t get the big hit when they needed. Salem only had 3 hits on the day, Cody Beard went 2-2 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Carter Lowe had the other hit with RBI also from Jalen Inlow, Keyton Grawe and Rhett Detering. Salem is scheduled to host Odin/Patoka/Sandoval this afternoon, weather permitting.
Christ Our Rock lost 15-14 to Metro East Lutheran on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th. The Stallions collected 10 hits in the game. Brayden Albert drove in 6 runs for Christ Our Rock going 3-5 on the day.
The SC Cougars put up 25 runs in the first two innings as they rolled past visiting Mulberry Grove 26-0 in four innings. Maddox Robb drove in 5 Cougar runs, SC got 3 RBI each from Colton Smith, Zane Montes, Hudson Moore and Evan Hoover. Chase Guerrettaz and Kaiden Harrell pitched in the win.
Mt Vernon won their 2nd in a row beating DuQuoin 8-4. Eli Prost was the winning pitcher and went 3-3 with 2 RBI in the game. Tyler Curry drove in 2 and Nolan Mast doubled. Ryker Perigo worked 2 innings for the save.
The Centralia Orphans opened up their South 7 season with a dominant 11-0 road win at Carbondale.
Marion improved to 5-4 on the season with their 3-1 win over Ziegler Royalton.
