The Salem Wildcats improved to 4-2 on the season beating visiting Charleston 9-1 at Salem Field yesterday.
With the Cats leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Senior Keaton Gullion hit a deep home run to right field, a 2-run shot, extending the lead to 4-0. It was his first high school home run as he finished the day 2-2 with a single and 2 walks as well. He scored 3 times.
Also at the plate, Noah Nix doubled driving in a run. Carter Lowe added an RBI along with Rhett Detering. Rhett was the winning pitcher going all 7 innings striking out 10 and allowing just 3 hits and striking out 10 with just 2 walks.
The Salem Wildcats baseball team is back on the road today when they travel to Centralia to take on the Orphans.
Mt Vernon fell to Civic Memorial 2-0. Diedrich Smith pitched a great game for the Rams going 6 innings of shutout ball.
Carlyle fell to 2-2 with a 12-0 loss in five innings to New Athens. Jon Schmitt and Rhettick Steinkamp both doubled for the Indians who host Woodlawn today.
