A 26-year-old Carlyle woman died in an early Wednesday morning crash on U.S. 50 at the Jolliff Bridge Road west of Sandoval.

Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss says Hazel Huels was pronounced dead on the scene.

Clinton County Sheriff Dan Travous says they first received a 911 call of a possible traffic crash at the intersection and then observed vehicles striking debris on the roadway.

On arrival of emergency personnel, an SUV was located in a field to the southeast of the intersection.  A female was located inside, not showing any signs of life.  Medical personnel confirmed the female and only occupant was deceased.

Travous says it appears the vehicle Huels was driving was eastbound on US 50 and left the roadway just west of Jolliff Bridge Road.  The vehicle continued east in the ditch until it struck a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll an unknown number of times.

Travous says it is not currently clear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

The crash was reported at 12:40 Wednesday morning.
