Lady Cats Honor Senior Laird & Show Well At First/Only Home Meet

The Salem Lady Wildcats hosted their first and only home track meet yesterday at Jim Finks Field hosting Mt Vernon, Marion and Centralia.  Salem honored their lone senior Aila Laird who also took 2nd in the 800.

Mt Vernon was first with 83.5 points followed by Salem with 76.  In the field events, the throwers had another good day.  Hannah Smith won the shot put in 34-8 and the discus in 122-8, both PR’s for Smith.  Ella Smith PR’d in the shot with a throw of 30-9 and Brylee Pennypacker PR’d in the discus with a throw of 99 feet.  Finley Puricelli won the high jump and 400m and was also a part of the 4×100 and 4×400 teams also taking first.

Kinsey Jarrett, Laird and Carly Veach were also on the 4×400.  Kinsey, Jarrett, Veach and Eden Gallia were part of the 4×100.  Veach also won the 110 and 300m hurdles.  Gallia was 3rd in the 200.  Salem will head to Herrin and Marion next week.
