Salem Community High School’s new Assistant Principal is looking forward to having a bigger role at the school.

Kelsey Pogue has been a special education teacher at SCHS for 12 years after growing up in Okawville.  She now considers Salem home for her family that includes her husband, four-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son.

“I really want to continue what our administration has going on here,” Pogue said. “I think we’ve got a really great team, we’ve got a really great climate in the building. I want to continue to build relationships with the community, keep getting to know people, getting to know the families, and continue what these guys have already started. They’ve done a great job.”

Pogue is replacing Clint Wolfe who is moving up to Principal to take the place of retiring John Boles.   Pogue hopes to make a difference in two areas.

“I’m working to improve student attendance. I’m really looking forward to working with Mr. Wolfe on some curriculum changes and possibilities that are out there for that.”

Pogue is appreciative to all of the teachers, staff, parents and students who have helped her grow in her current position.  She ended up in Salem as a ‘shot in the dark’ after answering a job bank ad after learning she didn’t like being a pre-kindergarten teacher.

Pogue may be best known in the community for reaching out for financial assistance to allow the high school to provide a gift card for each student every Christmas season.  She was also a Special Olympics coach before the activities were cancelled by COVID.
