Salem Fire Deputy Chief Greg Miller says a fire on the lower outside wall of a home started for an unknown reason Saturday afternoon.
The fire at the Jon Hoit home in the 1200 block of South Rotan burned about a six-inch square area near the porch. Hoit was using a hose to put water on the fire before firemen arrived and quickly doused the fire.
There were no injuries.
The fire call came in at 2:58 Saturday afternoon with firemen on the scene for about 40 minutes.
