A controlled burn in set aside acres southwest of Patoka spread out of control from the wind late Saturday morning.
Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde says the fire was on property owned by Kevin Chambers of Effingham on Sharpe Road about three miles southwest of Patoka. He reports the fire was in thick dry vegetation and continued to be spread by the wind. At one point the fire was moving towards a hunting cabin, but firemen were able to wet down the ground between the cabin and the fire to keep it away.
Patoka called Sandoval and Odin for mutual aid assistance.
The fire call came in at 10:37 Saturday morning and were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
