The Salem Grade School Board Thursday night handled a long list of personnel issues.

A long time office employee at Hawthorn Grade School has submitted her letter of retirement.  The board thanked Deann Cooper for her work over the years.  The board also thanked 7th Grade Special Education Teacher Elizabeth Smith who is resigning at the end of the year.

Three new teachers were hired for next school year.  They are Mallory Hodge as First Grade Teacher, Megan Lenzini as 4th Grade Teacher, and Katelyn Maxey as 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher.

The board hired Jennings Barnfield and Bryson Quinn as boys assistant track coaches and Kyle Gansauer as assistant golf coach for the seasons this spring.   Wendy Morris and Nickin Brubaker were named as next year’s student council sponsors.

The board accepted the resignation of Julie Quinn as girls track coach.

The board honorably discharged five educational support employees until more information is available about next year’s enrollment.  They are Brittany Asroff, Allison Simmons, Destiny Wimberly, Cnythia Duff and Christina Wescher

The first day of school next year is set for Friday August 15th.   The school calendar includes a two week Christmas break and a one week break for Easter.

Hawthorn Principal Marty Adams recognized Keaton Litteken as Hawthorn Grade Schools Illinois Principal Association’s student of the year.  Over 50 students from the Kaskaskia Region were honored at a recent breakfast held at Greenville College.

7th grader Dakoda Miller-Branson and 8th grader Gino Monroe were recognized for taking first place in the Marion County Spelling Bee and will advance to the next level of competition.
