The United States Environmental Protection Agency has announced that it is inviting residents to participate in interview sessions next month regarding the Sandoval Zinc Co. Superfund Site cleanup. EPA representatives will be at the Sandoval Village Hall Community Center from April 16-18. Available times will be Wednesday, April 16 from 2 PM to 7 PM, Thursday, April 17 from 9 AM to 7 PM, and Friday April 18 from 9 AM to 1 PM.
During 30-minute sessions, the EPA will ask questions to understand community concerns about ongoing investigations and cleanup at the site. This information will be used to create a community involvement plan to keep residents, businesses, and local officials informed and involved. Sandoval residents can schedule a time to talk by contacting EPA contractor Caeli Cleary at 312-201-7769 or emailing Caeli.cleary@tetratech.com.
The EPA is also seeking access to test properties in Sandoval for historic lead and arsenic contamination. Properties that have elevated levels of these heavy metals will be cleaned up at no cost to the property owner. Those with questions about this site can contact Amelia Holcomb at Holcomb.amelia@epa.gov or 312-886-6242.
