By Bruce Kropp Mar 19, 2025 | 6:03 AM

Effective immediately and through the next few days the Chiefs of the City of Centralia Fire Department, Centralia Fire Protection District, Sandoval Fire Department, Patoka Fire Department, Odin Fire Protection District, Iuka Fire Protection District, Salem Fire Protection District, Kell Fire Protection District, and Kinmundy-Alma Fire Protection District have issued a Burn Ban for any outside fire due to the Extreme risk during the Red Flag warning.     The fire departments will update this information and cancel the burn ban when conditions improve to allow safe outdoor burning.

From the National Weather Service

DANGEROUS WILDFIRE CONDITIONS EXPECTED WEDNESDAY… A combination of strong southwest winds, low relative humidity, and dry vegetation will result in a fire danger, especially during the afternoon hours. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Wednesday.

* Winds…Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Relative Humidity…As low as 18 to 24 percent.

* 10 Hour Fuels…as low as 6 to 8 percent.

* Impacts…any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

There is also a wind advisory in effect from ten am to seven pm on Wednesday as a result of anticipated southwest winds 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 miles per hour.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.   Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
