Coach Brian Lipe and the Salem Wildcats open up their baseball season this afternoon with a trip to Brennan Klein Field to take on the Mount Vernon Rams. The Wildcats return a majority of last year’s regional championship team, and will look for their first season opening win over the Rams since 2014.
The SC Cougars scored 15 runs on 16 hits as they opened up their season with a dominant 15-1 win on the road at CHBC. Callaway Smith and Maddox Robb homered for SC. Smith drove in 4 with 2 RBI each from Colton Smith and Trevan Sidwell. Callaway Smith earned the win going 2 innings of 1 hit ball. Sidwell and Chase Guerrettaz worked the final 3 innings.
Carlyle opened their season with a 16-1, four-inning win over Lebanon. Hayden Huels worked 3 innings allowing one earned run and one hit with 8 strikeouts. Jon Schmitt threw an inning of relief allowing no runs, one hit and struck out 2. Huels also had 2 doubles and a triple with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Carlyle will host Mulberry Grove on Wednesday.
