Salem Firemen responded to an unusual car fire and an electrical transformer fire on Wednesday.
Firemen were called to the David Garrison home in the 1500 block of Hawthorn Road when a car being used to try and pull a mower out of the mud caught fire. The exhaust system appears to have started the fire in dry grass. Firemen were able to extinguish the blaze before there was any major damage to the car.
Firemen were called to the 400 block of South Maple when an electric transfer blew causing an explosion and a few second power outage. Those in the area reported a fire after the explosion, but it had gone out before firemen arrived. Salem Firemen stood by until Ameren crews arrived about a half hour later.
