The Marion County Sheriff’s Department with citizen help and new technology has been able to track down two 17-year-old Salem area male juveniles who had allegedly seen transporting multiple stolen road signs.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says the vehicle was traveling westbound on the Route 161 Extension near the Skillet Fork Bridge in the early morning hours of March 8th when it was spotted. The signs were reportedly hanging out the driver and passenger side windows.
The vehicle was also seen hitting several mailboxes and other signs.
After checking the license plate obtained for the vehicle, the registered owner was confirmed and the two juveniles interviewed. They allegedly returned the signs, some of which were broken.
Cripps says the signs have been returned to the township highway departments that they were stolen from.
Information on the two juveniles were turned over to the Marion County State’s Attorney for a decision on any charges they may face.
Cripps is thanking citizens for their help in the case noting it takes everyone to keep a community safe.
