During its meeting Tuesday night, the Centralia City Schools Board of Education voted to approve Glass and Shuffett to perform the district’s annual audit. The cost of the audit is not to exceed $15,700.
Superintendent Craig Clark noted that the district experienced some communication issues with the firm last year. However, Clark says District 135 has had a long, positive relationship with Glass and Shuffett, he has reached out to the company about last year’s issues, and he hopes the two sides can have a better experience this time around.
“We’ve worked with them for many, many years (and) never had any issues. … One year, to me, could be a fluke. There’s a lot of things that could be going on, but I wanted to make sure that they understood that we rely on their communication for daily decisions and making sure that we’re doing things the correct way and that money is being handled correctly.”
Also on Tuesday, the board approved a motion to schedule eighth grade graduation ceremonies for Thursday, May 22nd, beginning at 6 p.m.
Board members also approved a number of personnel items, including the resignation of sixth grade math teacher Leslie Wall, Centralia Junior High School paraprofessional Kerri Wells, bus driver Erica Leger, and junior high yearbook advisor Michael Cooley. The board approved the hiring of Ryan Hargis as seventh grade boys’ track coach and Deborah Ruiz, Valicia Moore, and Shawn Dutton as bus monitors. The transfer of Michelle Wangler from third grade teacher to second grade teacher for the 2025-2026 school year was approved, as was the transfer of Emylee Sanders from kindergarten teacher to sixth grade teacher.
