St Anthony Holds Off Meridian In Overtime 

Will Fearday and Keenan Griffith had combined for 2 points heading into the overtime for the St Anthony Bulldogs, but both hit big three pointers in the extra session to help the Bulldogs rally past Meridian 62-58 to win the 1a EIU Super Sectionals.  St Anthony led twice by 17 points in the 2nd half only to see the lead erased late in regulation.  The Bobcats took a lead in overtime briefly, but a Fearday triple gave St Anthony back the lead.  With the game tied at 54, Griffith hit his only bucket of the night, a huge 3 pointer.  Brock Fearday led St Anthony with 22 and Ryan Schmidt added 21.  Meridan was paced by Antonio Flenoid Jr with 19.  Colin Monan added 15.  The Bulldogs improve to 29-4 while Meridian’s season ends at 26-9.  St Anthony advances to Friday’s State Semifinal at the State Farm Center in Champaign when they play Chicago Hope.  The other semifinal will see Peoria Christian taking on Lanark Eastland.


Hill Helps Lead Althoff To State Final Four

In 2a action at SIU, Dierre Hill Jr hit big shots late and finished with 21 points as Althoff knocked off Teutopolis 48-37.  The game was tied at 29 after three but the Crusaders capitalized on a couple missed shots and miscues by the Shoes.  Alex Kremer led TTown with 19.  The Shoes season ends at 24-11.  Althoff advances to the 2a state semifinal on Friday afternoon against Christ the King.  Chicago Dyett takes on Peoria Manual in the other semifinal.


Chatham Gets Late Bucket To Beat Triad at 3a Super Sectional

Cam Appenzeller found teammate Jonathan Helm in the lane who scored the winning basket as Chatham Glenwood knocked off Triad in the 3a Springfield Super Sectional 43-41.  It’s the first trip to state for Chatham, who won a super sectional back in 1975 and advanced to the Class A Quarterfinals.  Appenzeller finished with a game high 18 points.  Chatham will play Friday night against DePaul College Prep with the other semifinal seeing Brother Rice against St Patrick.


In 4a, Quincy lost to the Redwings of Lisle Benet Academy at ISU in Normal 58-50.  Jayden Wright scored 21 to lead Lisle.  Quincy’s season ends at 31-4 led by Bradie Longcor III with 17 and Keshaun Thomas with 12.  Benet Academy advances to take on Evanston and Rich Township will play Gurnee Warren.
