A modular home was damaged by fire in Sandoval late Monday night.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says initial reports indicate a fire with explosions and possible entrapment.  Upon arrival, firemen found a fire on the exterior and porch area with fire extending to the attic through the soffit.

The Amanda Berkel family had all gotten out of the home safely.

Parson reported they received a quick knockdown and limited the fire to the exterior and a portion of the attic area.  A hole was cut in the roof to remove the heat and smoke and access some of the smoldering insulation.  The interior of the home did sustain some smoke damage.

Parson says there was an apparent small explosion on the back porch area where the fire originated but they were unable to locate anything that would have been the cause.

The State Fire Marshal was called to assist in depending the cause.

The Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the family.

Odin and Centralia Fire District provided mutual aid at the scene.
