Three area counties were in the top five for the fall archery wild turkey season.

Statewide, a record harvest of 1,045 birds was recorded.  That’s up from 803 birds the year before.

Fayette County was first in the state with 37 birds taken.  Jefferson County was second with 28 and Marion County fourth with 24 harvested.    All three counties saw an increase over the prior year.  In other area counties, 19 birds were harvested in Clay County, 12 in Wayne County, and 11 in Washington County.

There were 27,422 permits issued statewide this season compared to 25,741 a year earlier.  The season dates were October first to January 19th.
