The Mt Vernon Lady Rams have made it to the Super Sectionals after a 74-59 win over Marion to win the Bethalto Sectional. Mt Vernon sealed the win with 19 made free throws in the fourth quarter. The win is #29 for Mt Vernon who will play in the Elite 8 for the first time ever. They will advance to Taylorville where they will face Quincy Notre Dame who won the Cahtham Glenwood Sectional over Mahomet Seymour.
The Nashville Hornets finally broke down the door and earned a win over top-ranked Breese Central as the 3rd ranked Hornettes won 44-36 in front of a huge crowd at Trenton Wesclin High School. Nashville improves to 31-3 and advances to Monday’s Vandalia 2a Super Sectional against Camp Point Central, who beat Pleasant Plains at Waverly in overtime. Breese Central’s season ends at 30-3.
Also in 2a, Mt Carmel Lady Aces finally snapped their streak of losses in Sectional title games to Teutopolis as they knocked off the Shoes 43-32 to win the Paris Sectional. They advance to Monday’s at Tolono Unity where they will play Kankakee McNamara who won the Herscher Sectional over Watseka. TTown ends their year at 24-9.
For the 2nd year in a row, Alton won the 4a Sectional and reached the Elite 8 routing Pekin 63-36. They will play at Illinois Wesleyan against Aurora Waubonsie Valley who won the Bolingbrook Sectional over Lisle Benet Academy.
Edwards County won the 1a Trico Sectional edging Marissa 40-37. They will head to the O-Rena in Okawville where they get Carrollton who beat Hardin Calhoun to win the Raymond Sectional.
Also Effingham St Anthony’s season came to an end as they lost in the Arcola Sectional finals to St Teresa 45-40.
