The Centralia Orphans opened up their 3a post season at Effingham and improved to 27-4 on the season with a 77-33 blowout win. The Orphans were red from beyond the 3-point line hitting 9-14 before the clock started to run in the 4th. Kenny Bratton led a balanced scoring attack for the Orphans with 15. The win was also #700 in the amazing career of Lee Bennett. He had won his 400th at Centralia earlier this season and talked with us about the accomplishment after the game.
Centralia will play for another regional title on Friday when they take on Herrin who beat Mattoon 63-38. Kyrese Lukens had 17 in the win for the Tigers.
The Mt Vernon Rams advanced to the Carbondale 3a regional finals on Friday after beating the host Terriers last night 53-36. They advance to take on Marion for a 3rd time this season after the Wildcats eliminated Olney 61-36. Marion and Mt Vernon split their games this season and both tied for the Conference title along with Centralia.
Taylorville’s Malique Pearce got a steal and hit a half court shot to lift the Tornadoes over Rochester in their regional semifinal.
In 4a last night at Alton, Edwardsville rolls over Granite City 61-37 and Alton beat Collinsville 52-46. At Belleville West, Quincy beat O’Fallon 54-36 and Belleville East eliminated Belleville West 59-50.
