The Salem City Council has approved a $27,840 contract with Foresight to oversee the next phases of renovation work of City Hall.
City Manager Annette Sola explains the work she hopes to be able to complete during the next fiscal year starting in May.
“We have to move all of the electric in the back before we can make repairs to the rest of the building,” Sola said. “The roof would be first, and after the roof would be repairs to the back of the building, and then we will work on windows and things in the front of the building.”
Sola notes a contract has already been entered for the electrical system relocation at the rear of the building and she wants to get with roofing contractors as soon as possible to get on their schedule for this year.
The roof alone will cost an estimated $170,500. Sola says the total project will cost $450,000 which is not financially feasible for the city to complete in one year. As a result of not all the work being completed this year, they likely won’t utilize the entire amount of the Foresight contract. Foresight will help plan and oversee the project similar to an engineering firm.
After a closed session, the council decided not to accept the building next to city hall at 109 South Broadway free of charge from retiring City Attorney Mike Jones due to the amount of money they need to spend on city hall.
