Catherine Selma Mix, age 79 of Carlyle, passed away at Carlyle Healthcare and Senior Living on February 10, 2026.

Catherine was born in Chisholm, Minnesota on November 29, 1946, a daughter of the late John and Rose (Selvo) Salonen. She grew up in Minnesota, graduated from Chisholm High School, and spent her career with the United States Postal Service.

Catherine’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She treasured Life Church in Carlyle, as it reminded her of her home church in Minnesota years ago. She loved being a mother and grandmother, and her love for her family was unwavering. Catherine was a gentle soul who never knew a stranger and made friends wherever she went.

Catherine is survived by her beloved children, Robert Mix (Trish) of Springfield, Illinois, Richard Mix (Heather) of Carlyle, Illinois, and Victoria Williams (Michael) of Belleville, Illinois; her loving grandchildren, Adele and Russell Mix, and Avery, Mason, and Amelia Williams; a sister, Elizabeth Blagoue of Breese, Illinois; and a brother, Tom Salonen (Charlene) of Venice, Florida. Catherine is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Brian Blagoue (Pamela), Craig Blagoue, Brad Blagoue (Rose), Elizabeth Jansen, and Kimberly Blagoue; a cousin, John Chapas; as well as several beloved great nieces and great nephews.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Salonen; a brother, Dr. James Salonen (Jean Ann); a niece, Carolyn Boeker; and a great nephew, Jacob Williams.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Life Church, 16580 Old State Road, Carlyle, Illinois, with Pastor Jason McIntosh officiating. Following the service, a luncheon will be served at the church. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Life Church in Carlyle. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm, Minnesota at a later date.
