Local Republican State Representatives and Senators have reacted to the guilty verdict for the corruption trial of former Democratic Illinois House Speaker, Michael Madigan.

State Senator, Terri Bryant of Murphysboro explains, “Today’s verdict confirms what Illinoisans have known for years – Michael Madigan and the corrupt Democratic political machine put power and personal gain ahead of the people they were supposed to serve.”

State Representative, Charlie Meier of Okawville says, “How many guilty verdicts is it going to take for Democrats to join Republicans and pass the tough, necessary, sweeping reforms to our ethics laws to clean up government and stamp out corruption for good? The time to act is now.”

State Representative, Blaine Wilhour of Beecher City explains, “Mike Madigan deserved his guilty verdict. I hope they throw him in prison. He is a corrupt, self-serving politician who has done tremendous damage to our state.”

State Senator, Jason Plummer of Edwardsville says, “This guilty verdict was well-deserved. Unfortunately, the problems in Illinois politics go deeper than just one man, we have an ongoing culture of corruption. We need action now to put true ethics reforms into place to save Illinoisans from the culture that has been perpetuated by Madigan, and their allies who are still in power.”
