Salem Police say they have located the vehicle and apparent driver in a hit and run crash on Mills Cart Road in front of Lander’s Automotive early Saturday morning.
The driver has been identified as 27-year-old Austin Back of North College in Salem. He’s been ticketed for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Salem Police say the pickup truck ran off the road and crashed into a power pole, shearing it off at the base and bringing down power lines.
The pickup was found parked a few blocks away where it may have stopped running due to heavy damage. Police say it also had part of the broken power pole on the truck. The truck was then tied to Back through the license plate.
Police were notified of the damaged power pole at 4:16 Saturday morning, nearly two hours after the crash occurred by Ameren crews making repairs.
