The Class S State Basketball tournament opened at Rend Lake College on Saturday. Patoka saw their season come to an end falling to Pinckneyville 204 by a final of 47-37.
Also in first round play, Rome lost to OBR 41-27, Good Shepherd beat DeSoto 58-32, Germantown 53-31 over Cypress-Buncombe, Cairo beat St Joe Olney 61-56, St John Nuemann over Marissa 45-37, Thompsonville 42-34 over Cisne and Valmeyer eliminated Waltonville 31-28.
The tournament continues Monday night with quarterfinal games. OBR will take on Good Shepherd at 3:30 followed by Pinckneyville and Germantown at 4:45, then Cairo and St John Nuemann at 6 and then Thompsonville and Valmeyer at 7:15. The state semifinals are on Thursday with the trophy games Saturday.
Tuesday is the Class M State semifinals. Joseph Arthur will take on Nashville and Smithton battles NCOE.
The Class L Tournament opens on Saturday with Marion and Whiteside followed by Waterloo and Centralia, then Murphysboro and Flora with Carbondale and Casey Mt Vernon the final first round game.
