Earl Herbert Dare Jr., 89, of Mount Vernon, IL, passed away at 6:45 pm on January 31, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL. He was born March 11, 1936, in McClellan Township, Jefferson County, to Earl Herbert Dare and Nina Mae (Black) Dare. Herb married Barbara (Dale) Dare on June 08, 1957.
Herb is survived by his wife, Barbara L. Dare; daughter Teresa Dare Rawlings and husband Mitchell; son Earl Herbert Dare III and wife Deidre; two grandchildren, Jamie (Nicholas) Dare- Ryckman, Nick Earl Dare; two great grandchildren, Charlotte Mae Ryckman, Harrison Dare Ryckman.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents.
Herb was a lifelong farmer. He had been very active in many civic and volunteer organizations during his lifetime.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 05, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IL. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 05, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, IL. Memorials may be made in Herb’s honor to the Jefferson County Historical Society and will be accepted at the funeral home at any time.
