The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has announced a preliminary total of 170,758 deer were taken during all of the 2024-2025 archery and firearm seasons that ended January 19th.
That compares to the 160,313 deer taken during all of the 2023-24 seasons.
The largest number of deer were taken in the shotgun hunting season, with 82,496 deer taken. Archery hunters took a total of 73,598 deer. Another 2,832 were taken during the muzzle loading season.
IDNR reports of the deer taken in the 2024-25 seasons, 46 percent were female and 54-percent males. Final harvest totals by season and county will be released as part of the annual deer harvest report which will be published in the spring.
