The Marion County Board’s Road and Bridge Committee has named Board Secretary Lori Linder as Acting County Engineer.

The decision came in a special meeting on Friday following the earlier resignation of Mariliea Snow from the same position.   Linder will remain in the position until a new County Highway Engineer is named.

Road and Bridge Co-Chair Adam Smith announced during the meeting they have made an offer to one of the candidates interviewed earlier.   He had a number of questions before accepting the job that was directed to former County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick for answers.   McCormick is continuing to help Marion County until a new highway engineer is in place.

Snow will continue to be paid $1,000 a month for preparing documents for road projects while Linder will receive a $500 stipend for being the ‘signer’ of paperwork required by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Snow encouraged members of the county board to give more attention to the department, noting the poor condition of its building and equipment.

Smith encouraged work to continue to find new dump trucks to replace nearly 25-year-old Sterling trucks where parts are difficult to find.

The board has purchased property on US 50 near Hoots Chapel Road for a new highway department garage, but that project has been on hold since McCormick has left.
