Iuka Names Fireman of Year, Releases Annual Stats

Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan has presented the 2024 Firefighter of the Year Award at the annual awards and appreciation dinner on January 28th.  Blake Hiestand was nominated by his peers to receive the award.   It was noted during the presentation that Hiestand is committed to training, is always willing to help with projects around the station and has become an integral part of the department.

The Iuka Fire Protection District had a record number of calls in 2024. Chief Eagan reported a total of 186 calls. 125 of those were EMS calls, 14 brush fires, 2 lawn mower fires, 12 vehicle accidents, 11 mutual aid calls, and 15 good intent calls. Additionally Chief Eagan reported 7 fires in buildings, but noted zero major structure fires for 2024.
