The long running National Trail Conference Tournament will open up Monday night with the 8/9 matchup of CHBC and Neoga from Altamont High School.
The Little Illini Tournament opened up on Saturday. Top seed Olney beat Robinson 78-42, 5th seed Paris upset Marshall 58-49, 2nd seed Lawrenceville got an easy 70-54 win over Mt Carmel and 3rd seed Casey beat Newton 58-53. The tournament continues Monday night with the consolation semifinals. Robinson and Marshall play at 6pm followed by Mt Carmel and Newton.
Waltonville used a 16-1 fourth quarter run to beat Webber in the finals of the MTC Tournament 62-51. Tournament MVP Kyle Cooper led the Spartans with 23 and Webber scoring phenom Nathanial Marlow finished with 33. Woodlawn beat Grayville in the 3rd place game 66-56 and it was Red Hill 69-63 winners of the consolation title over Wayne City.
Matt Laur’s Pinckneyville Panthers kept rolling as they won the Sparta Mid Winter Tournament beating a good Murphysboro Red Devils team in the finals 58-49. Trico beat Marissa in the third place game 41-36. Sparta over Steeleville for 5th place 76-64 and the 7th place game saw Red Bud beat Freeburg 51-47.
Triad won the Litchfield Tournament beating Civic Memorial in the finals 60-49. Taylorville was 3rd over Mattoon 61-55. Alton Marquette won the 5th place game over Greenville 44-43. It was Roxana beating Nokomis 56-46 in the 7th place game. The 9th place game saw Litchfield over Father McGivney 46-40 and the day began with Pana beating Hillsboro 60-52 in the 11th place game.
Congratulations to former Salem Wildcats coach Andy Fehrenbacher and the Harrisburg Bulldogs on winning the Carmi White County Invitational going undefeated finishing with a 59-47 win over Fairfield. The Bulldogs went 4-0 on the week.
The Columbia Eagles won the Okawville Tournament for the 4th straight year beating Wesclin in the finals 72-62. The Eagles Sam Donald was named Tournament MVP. Wesclin’s Chandler Mueller scored 24 and went over 1000 career points while sophomore Gavin Rahm finished with 19. Brody Landgraf had 24 for Columbia and was also named to the All Tournament Team. Also on the team was Carlyle’s Hayden Huels, Rahm and Mueller, Jayden Bazile of Christ Our Rock, Aidan Anderson of Okawville and Garrin Stone of Highland. Highland was 3rd over Carlyle 59-46, Okawville won the consolation final over Madison 40-35 and Christ Our Rock beat Gibault in the 7th place game 57-53.
Marion outgunned Waterloo to win the title at Nashville 57-53. Breese Central beat the Hornets in the 3rd place game 47-35. Mater Dei was the consolation champion over Mascoutah 50-39. The All Tournament team consisted of Breese Central’s Griffen Becker and Kaden Rakers, Thijson Heard of Metro East Lutheran, Jayden McCoo of Mascoutah, Reid Metzger of Waterloo, Mater Dei’s Gavin Peppenhorst, Nashville’s Maddox Ritzel, Alex Stell of Waterloo and Marin’s Kaden Rogowski and Ethan Simmons.
Meridian upset Benton to win the Benton Invitational 75-65. Herrin knocked off Carterville in the 3rd place game 68-59. Hamilton County edged Vandalia 46-45 in the consolation finals. Sesser Valier routed Roosevelt in the 7th place game 87-36. The All Tournament Team consisted of Ethan Kessler of Hamilton County, Kyan Short of Sesser, Kaden Wilson of Carterville, Wade Brannon of Vandalia, Kyrese Lukens of Herrin, Benton’s Grant Owens and NOlan Shafer as well as Meridian’s Javionne Ranson and Colin Monan.
