Illinois State Police report two additional traffic crashes on southbound I-57 south of Mt. Vernon during the noon hour on Sunday. While on the scene of a motorist assist at mile marker 89 the two crashes occurred. Neither involved the stalled truck.
Preliminary investigation indicates the first crash occurred at mile marker 89 at 12:18 pm when for unknown reasons a tractor-trailer truck collided with a passenger car. There were no injuries reported and partial road blockage.
State Police reported 17 minutes later a tractor-trailer truck ran off the road at mile marker 88. The driver of that truck was transported to an area hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.
The names of those involved have not been released.
