Firefighters faced extremely icy conditions as they fought two house fires in Mt. Vernon Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
The first fire was at the Edward Harde, Junior home on McCulley Road. Smoke was showing from two sides of the home when firemen arrived and discovered the source of the fire was in the attic in the center part of the home. The cause of fire has not been determined and remains under investigation. Damage was reported as extensive. The Harde family discovered the fire and were able to exit the home safely.
Mt. Vernon Firemen received mutual aid from Jefferson Fire and Kell Firemen on the scene while Waltonville and Ashley covered the Mt. Vernon station in the event of another fire. Hamilton County ESDA was called to assist firefighters on the scene due to the extreme cold. Litton’s Ambulance also stood by. The fire call came in at 8:19 Monday night and remained on the scene until 11 pm.
The second fire was at the Cheryl Adison home at 2116 Cherry Street. A minor fire burned the single room of the 200 square foot tiny home. Flames were showing when firemen arrived. While the fire was relatively minor, it caused extensive damage. Adison was not home at the time the fire was discovered at 12:18 Tuesday morning. Firemen were on the scene for about 45 minutes. No mutual aid was requested.
