Four people were injured when a semi swerved into a car parked along the side of I-57 southbound at mile marker 91 south of Mt. Vernon yesterday afternoon.
Jefferson Fire officials say the semi then continued another 200 to 300 yards and went through fence onto Radisson Road coming to a stop in a yard.
One of the passengers in the car was extricated by firemen and transported by Air Evac to a St. Louis Hospital. The helicopter landed on the interstate. Two others in the car, a 21-year-old male and a 19-year-old female from Tennessee, were transported to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
State Police identify the truck driver as a 44-year-old male from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was also transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
The crash occurred at 1:24 Monday afternoon.
