The Marion County Board’s Animal Control Facebook page is finding initial success in getting dogs back to their owners and others adopted to new homes.
Board Chair and Facebook Administrator Steve Whritenour is happy with the initial response. He reports since the beginning of the year when the account went live a dozen dogs have found homes. He invites anyone in the county whose dog is missing or who is wanting to adopt a dog to visit Marion County Illinois Animal Control.
The big effort of animal control right now is to find homes for 11 lab puppies found abandoned in rural Salem. So far six have been adopted with the help of the growing number of Facebook followers. If you are interested, you can contact the Facebook page or call Animal Control Officer Ken Ferguson.
Whritenour says the Facebook page IS NOT the correct way to report an animal control problem. Those complaints need to be filed directly with Ferguson. The animal control number is (730) 227-1759. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is also now referring those calling the office with animal complaints to directly contact Ferguson.
