A 45-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been found guilty by a Jefferson County Court Jury for first-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Robert Lewis was charged in connection with the death of 62-year-old Thomas Taylor in March of last year. Lewis is accused of striking Taylor with a pickup truck in an alley off the 2800 block of Veterans Memorial Drive following an argument. Lewis then fled the scene. Taylor, who was working on his vehicle at the time, was taken to a hospital for treatment but died from the injuries.
Sentencing is set for March 20th.
Lewis faces a 20 to 60-year sentence on the first-degree murder charge that will have to be 100 percent served. The leaving the scene of an accident charge has a two to 14-year sentence, with 85 percent having to be served.
Jury selection began in the trial on Tuesday. The jury received the case at 11:10 Friday morning and delivered the verdict about three hours later.
A charge of aggravated DUI was previously severed from the other two charges.
