A 16-year-old Irvington juvenile boy has been arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding and numerous traffic charges following a high-speed chase from the west side of Centralia to Posey.
Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says the series of events began Thursday afternoon when a vehicle was stolen from the Deerwood Mobile Home Park.
About two and a half hours later, Centralia’s new license plate reader system recorded the car being in the area of the West McCord Casey’s store. After confirming it was the right vehicle and a person was inside, the juvenile allegedly took off after seeing police. The chase went down Brookside, West 4th Street, to Noltings Road before heading back to State Route 161. The chase continued to a small road in Posey where the juvenile made a turn and collided with a Centralia Police car. The stolen car received heavy damage, but the squad car only had minor damage. After initially trying to once again flee, the juvenile gave up and did not resist being taken into custody.
Due to the charges not having enough points to hold the juvenile, he was released to a parent on a notice to appear in court.
Whritenour is thanking all the police departments that assisted including Central City, Wamac, Germantown, and Nashville Police along with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
