Odin School District assistant superintendent Quinton Marcum.

The Odin board of education hired Quinton Marcum as superintendent for the 2025-26 school year at its regular meeting on Thursday. It will be the first year of a three-year contract. Marcum, currently assistant superintendent, has been with the school district since being hired as principal in 2021. Marcum says his plan for next year is to stay the course.

“(I want) to continue the success with our building improvements as well as our curriculum improvements, and to make sure that we continue to build a culture of success and cooperation,” Marcum said.

Marcum thanked the staff of Odin School and the school board for their hard work in the four years he’s been with the district so far.

The board also discussed plans for a feasibility study for the next school year. The feasibility study will explore the possibility of the school district consolidating with Patoka and Sandoval in the future. If Odin and the other school districts give their approval in July, the study will be conducted during the next school year. Superintendent Belinda Kirgan says the district’s consultant, a professor at Eastern Illinois University, recommended pushing back the study to the next school year to allow more time for its completion. Voting to approve the study will not obligate any of the districts to take further action based on its findings.

The board also approved the purchase of an electric flag for the gym. The school has received $4500 in donations to pay for the flag, and any additional costs for the flag will be paid by the district.
