A winter storm watch continues for South Central Illinois until six Friday night with an expected three to five inches of snow.
Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps says major roadways have become snowcovered in many places. He’s stressing for people to slow down as you get out and about today.
He has special concerns about the secondary roads in the city and the rural roads that are already covered in ice. Cripps says they now appear to be just snow-covered, but the ice will be underneath. He expects travel on those roadways to be even more dangerous than it was prior to the snow.
The high temperature on Friday is expected to stay just under freezing. Winds should not cause a concern like during the last storm with light and variable wind becoming south around six miles per hour in the morning.
Snow is like before nine Friday night, with a chance of flurries up to midnight.
