Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse has released the name of the 46-year-old woman who died in a fire at her home in the 2800 block of Mannen Street early Tuesday morning.   She is Lillliye Marshall.

Hayse says she was rushed to Crossroads Hospital where CPR was completed in the emergency room before she was pronounced dead.  An autopsy is planned on Thursday.

Firemen reported heavy fire showing from the back of the home upon their arrival.  The call was quickly elevated to a box alarm status to bring in additional departments.  The home had heavy fire damage to the rear of the home and substantial smoke damage throughout.  Marshall’s dog also died in the fire.

A Mt. Vernon Police Officer who smelled smoke in the area discovered the fire at 3:35 Tuesday morning.  Jefferson Fire, Kell, Bluford, and Wayne City all responded to the scene for mutual aid, while Ashley and Waltonville stood by at the Mt. Vernon Fire Station in the event of another fire.   Firemen were on the scene until 5:45 Tuesday morning.

The fire was the second of the night for the Mt. Vernon Fire Department.  A passerby spotted smoke coming from the  Tyrone Bristoe home in the 1200 block of South 16th.  They went up to the door but determined no one was home.  A dog and two cats were later removed unharmed.

Firemen say the fire was at the rear of the structure, which received heavy damage.  A quick knockdown kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the home which received extensive smoke damage.

Jefferson Fire and Litton’s Ambulance provided mutual aid on the scene while Kell and Woodlawn stood by at the Mt. Vernon station in the event of another fire.  The fire alarm came in at 5:55 Monday night with firemen remaining on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The cause of both fires remain under investigation.  The State Fire Marshal is joining Mt. Vernon Fire investigators on the fatal fire.
